Local drag racer qualifies for NHRA World Championships

WOODBURN, OREGON — A local drag racer finished in first place in the National Hot Rod Association division finals over the weekend, allowing him to punch his ticket to the world championships.

Riley Toth won the race of champions in the Motorcycle Class at the NHRA Division 6 ET finals in Woodburn, Oregon this past weekend. Toth won with a time of 8.833 seconds on his 2002 Kawasaki, ahead of  Jeramy Reber of Rogue River, Oregon, who finished with a 9.222 second time.

Toth’s win qualifies him for the NHRA World finals in Ponoma, California from November 9-12. He is the fourth driver from the Medicine Hat Drag Racing Association to qualify for the world finals, following Dave Burden, Mark Simmons and Greg Westling.

Division 6 includes racers from B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Montana, Idaho, Washington and Oregon.

Among other local racers, Zachary Gaetz won the junior lightning class on Sunday, while Kiandra Gaetz was the runner up in the junior thunder class, according to the track results from Woodburn.

A total of 23 racers from Medicine Hat made the trip to Oregon for the races.
