MEDICINE HAT, AB — With a new school year underway, the city is reminding Hatters about a new playground zone at the city’s newest school.

The zone is now in place at the Dr. Ken Sauer School at Terrace Drive NE and 11th Avenue NE. Signs were installed last week, and the 30 kilometre per hour speed limit is now in effect.

The city will install a new crosswalk at the intersection of Terrace Drive NE and 11th Avenue NE.

The Medicine Hat Police Service also announcing the new school is now approved for use as a photo radar enforcement site. Police will monitor traffic going east and west on 11 Avenue, and north and south on Terrace Drive withing the zone.

As part of provincial guidelines, police will advertise the new photo radar sites for three months on its website. Starting December 1, warning tickets will be issued to violators for one month, and photo radar enforcement will begin on January 1, 2018. Police say convention enforcement of the location will take place until the education period ends.

All school and playground zones within the city are posted at 30 kilometres/hour between 7:30 a.m. and 9 p.m.
