City council meeting Monday night

MEDICINE HAT, AB — City council returns with a full agenda for Monday’s meeting.

Council will rule on an amendment to a traffic bylaw to alter the speed limit on Parkview Drive from 50 kilometres per hour to 70 kilometres.

The city conducted a survey in May, with 2,099 out of 2,423 respondents in favour of a speed increase on the street.

City council will also discuss a proposed budget amendment to allow the city to make a bid to host the 2018 World Under Seventeen Hockey Challenge.

The public service committee is recommending that council approve an operating grant of $125,000 and act as a guarantor for the event for the amount of $1,200,000, ‘which would only be relied upon if the event revenues do not offset the expenses to host the tournament’ stated the report.
