MEDICINE HAT, AB — A major research and developing company has officially purchased a local machining company to develop a clean emissions technology in the city

Atlantis Research Labs, a Regina-based company focused on aerospace, defence and energy, has acquired Form-Tech Machining Ltd. in Medicine Hat for an undisclosed sum.

Brian Hallick, Form-Tech Machining Ltd, is looking forward to the new venture.

“”We started working on a merger about a year ago and it’s all finished now and we are all very excited” he said.

They plan to manufacture the PureJet waste gas incineration system in Medicine Hat. Purejet is a new technology that reduces methane emissions without any visible flame, smell or smoke.

“It’ll still be Form-Tech, it’s one of the divisions under Atlantis, they have 3 companies, there’s Pure Jet, Form-Tech and Atlantis” he said

Vladimir Mravcak, CEO of Atlantis Research Labs, the company expects to add 200 jobs over the next five years, while retaining the 30 current employees from Form-Tech.

“We’ll be enhancing some of the employee skills here currently with training programs that we’ll be hosting at some of the institutions such as Medicine Hat College and other regional facilities. So we’ll be bringing in training from else where to help us bring our skills up  and  we’ll be offering hopefully some new curriculum on the aerospace side and on the manufacturing side” he said.

Mravcak says that they will be looking to employ a variety of different fields including manufacturing, machining, research and engineering positions. Atlantis Research Labs was originally founded in Regina, SK. and they have a facility currently in Calgary, AB. With the new merger, they plan to move most of their existing operations to Medicine Hat, AB.
