EDMONTON, AB — The Medicine Hat Mavericks are on the brink of elimination following a 4-3 loss in Game 3 to the Edmonton Prospects on ReMax Field on Wednesday night.

On Connor Deeds second throw of the game, Prospects leadoff hitter Jake Lanferman unloaded a walk-off double to bring home Derek Shedden’s game winning run. Deeds replaced Barry Caine with two on and one out.

Lanferman continues to light up the post-season, now dawning a .438 batting average after connecting three out of five opportunities at the plate.

Edmonton now has a strangle-hold on the home-advantage Mavericks, leading their best-of-five West Final series 2-1. Game four goes Thursday night (7:05 p.m.) from ReMax Field in the provincial capital.

Medicine Hat scored the game’s first run in the third inning — David Salgueiro took advantage of a wild pitch from Prospects starter Zaine Foth-Thomas to give the Mavs their first of two leads in the game.

Edmonton answered back with a single notch in the fourth before the Mavericks regained their lead in the sixth. They doubled their advantage in the seventh on another wild pitch, scoring Chris Caffrey waiting on third.

It didn’t take long for Edmonton to square it up. In the latter half of the seventh, Lanferman and Zane Takhar released back-to-back RBI singles to tie the game 3-3.

If the Mavericks move onto the WMBL Championship, it’ll be after a Game 5 victory at Athletic Park on Friday. But first, they’ll need to secure a victory in Game Four.
