MEDICINE HAT, AB – The biggest cash weekend of the Medicine Hat Drag Racing Association’s season came and went over the weekend at the drag strip.

The annual ‘Big Buck Weekend’ was held, with over $35,000 in prize money available for racers taking part.

A highlight from the weekend included the annual ‘Big Beaver Classic,’ which saw drivers compete over three days on a shorter, 1/8th mile track.

Drivers also raced in the standard classes, including pro, superpro, dragsters, and bikes.

As part of the Big Buck Weekend, the Medicine Hat Drag Racing Association also celebrated 25 years of racing at their Box Springs location.

Electronics driver Len Mayer said cooler temperatures over the weekend actually helped his performance on the track.

“It’s a little bit better when it’s cooler like this,” said Mayer. “I was here last weekend and the track gets a little bit slippery when it gets too hot. So, these are ideal conditions.”

Just one day of racing this upcoming weekend, with the ‘Mud Bog’ competition running on Saturday.
