Champions crowned Saturday at Medicine Hat Stampede Rodeo

MEDICINE HAT, AB – After three days of competition, the champions of the Medicine Hat Stampede rodeo were crowned down at the Stampede Grounds on Saturday afternoon.

In bareback riding, Regina’s Ty Taypotat held onto his two-day lead and was named winner with a score of 86 points.

No one on Day Three was able to crack the top three contestants, with Ky Marshall picking up second place with an 85 and Caleb Bennett taking third with an 84.5.

Garrett Smith from Idaho was crowned champion in bull riding, with his second day score of 86 points holding up as the winner.

Meeting Creek’s Garrett Green got a piece of the money with a score of 85.5 on Saturday, while Calgary’s Cody Floyd scored an 83.5 and took home third.

In ladies barrel racing, Brooks’ Lynette Brodoway held off all competitors on Day Three and was named Medicine Hat Stampede champion with a time of 17.49 seconds in the slack competition on Thursday.

Texas’ Jackie Ganter rode her horse to a time of 17.54 seconds to claim second, and third place went to Bobbie Goodwin with a time of 17.61 seconds.

It was Layton Green’s lucky day in the saddlebronc competition, as he won the Stampede title on the final ride of the event by posting a score of 90.

Cort Scheer couldn’t hold onto top spot and had to settle for second place with an 87.5, while Sterling Crawley and Clay Elliott tied for third place, each posting scores of 86.

Scott Guenther from Provost took home the steer wrestling title on Saturday, posting the fastest time of the competition at just 4.1 seconds.

Day Two leader Ted Gollaher dropped down to second place with a time of 4.2 seconds, with a three-way tie of Joe Guze, Ben Ramey, and Chance Butterfield splitting third place.

In team roping, the brother duo of Riley and Brady Minor were named winners with a time of five seconds flat on Friday night.

Spencer Rutherford and Denver Johnson were just one-tenth of a second away from tying the Minors as they finished in second, Levi Simpson and Jeremy Buhler meanwhile took third.

Finally in tie-down roping, Nanton’s Logan Bird outlasted the competition and won the Medicine Hat title with a time of 8.3 seconds.

With a time of 8.4 seconds, Shane Hanchey took second while Red Deer County’s Kirk Robinson posted a time of 8.5 seconds for the bronze.
