HAVRE, MONTANA – The Medicine Hat K of C Knights continued their North District Tournament in Montana on Saturday, taking on the host Havre North Stars.

On Friday, the Knights built themselves up a 10-7 lead in the second inning, but allowed seven runs in the sixth and fell to the Lewistown Redbirds by a 21-11 final score.

Wyatt Bergen was handed the loss on the mound for the Knights, while Joel Herron had a three RBI performance in the defeat.

That loss set up a Saturday morning matchup against the North Stars, as the Knights tried to get themselves back on track.

Medicine Hat scored a pair of runs in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead, but the North Stars answered back with two runs of their own in the second to tie the game.

That set up a big third inning for the Knights, scoring five runs off Havre to vault themselves into a 7-2 lead.

Runs in the fifth and sixth innings helped boost the Knights’ lead to 10-2, but that’s when the North Stars found their offensive flare.

Havre scored five runs in the seventh inning to cut the Medicine Hat lead to 10-7, but starting pitcher Ashtyn Street closed out the contest to hold on for a Knights victory.

Street was solid on the rubber for Medicine Hat, striking out three Havre batters while allowing five earned runs on nine hits.

The Knights were outhit 9-7 by the North Stars, but were able to get big contributions from Bergen and Justin Bourassa with multi-RBI efforts each.

The winners and runners-up for the tournament will qualify for the 2017 Alberta/Montana State ‘A’ Tournament next week.
