WEYBURN, SK — The Weyburn Beavers struck early and often, blowing out the Medicine Hat Mavericks 15-2 at Tom Laing Park Thursday night.

The Beavers jumped to a 5-0 lead after the first inning, added another pair in the second, and tacked on five more runs in the sixth frame. Weyburn out-hit Medicine Hat 18-4.

Medicine Hat’s two runs came in the third and fourth innings. Louie Canjura collected the only RBI for the Mavs on the night — a sac-fly to right field to score Jacob Leal in the third. Chris Caffrey, David Salgueiro, Chris Rodriguez and Leal were the only Mavs to collect hits.

Mavericks starting pitcher Barry Caine lasted 1.2 innings, alliowing eight hits and seven earned runs.

The East Division has been a headache for the Gas City this season. The Mavs conclude their play with Saskatchewan-based clubs with a 6-6 record.

Medicine Hat will look to bounce back into the win column on Saturday, hosting the Lethbridge Bulls at Athletic Park (7:05 p.m.).
