BROOKS, AB — On a rare night the Mavericks high-powered offence wasn’t producing, Tyler Skinner shined brightly.

The Dos Palos, CA product surrendered just six hits and one run in his first career WMBL start, leading the Medicine Hat Mavericks to a 5-1 victory over the Brooks Bombers Monday night.

Skinner’s seven innings was highlighted with six strikeouts and just three walks in a victory which moves the Mavs to a half game back of Lethbridge.

Although Skinners performance was impressive, Bombers starter Trevor Wiegel did everything he could to give his team a chance. The Texan lasted seven innings as well, surrendering just three hits but allowing four runs in the process.

Mavericks infielder Chris Caffrey connected on two chances, including a 2 RBI double in the third inning to give his team a 4-0 lead.

Brooks’ only run came in the seventh — A sac-hit from Efrain Cervantes to drive home Logan Burke from third.

With the victory, Medicine Hat becomes the sixth team in the league to reach the 20 win mark. They return to action Tuesday night in Moose Jaw, kicking off a three-game road trip in Saskatchewan.
