Weekend road trips winding down for American Legion teams

HAVRE, MT – An up and down Saturday for the Medicine Hat K of C Knights, posting a 1-1 record following their double-header with the North Stars in Havre, Montana.

In the opener, the Knights scored seven runs over the game’s final three innings to take home a 9-4 victory over Havre.

All but one of the Knights’ hitters reached base on hits, with Ethan Bartram and Easton Brooks each registering a trio of hits. Bartram and Keon Vereschagin both had multi-RBI games as well.

Wyatt Bergen lasted five innings on the mound, picking up the victory with five strikeouts while Justin Bourassa closed things out for the Knights.

Things weren’t as sunny in the second game Saturday, with a Knights comeback falling one run short in a 6-5 loss to the North Stars.

The Knights actually outhit Havre 8-6 in the game, with Vereschagin and Bergen each collecting a pair of hits.

Dylan Koenig was credited with the loss for Medicine Hat, giving up three earned runs on six hits but was also able to strike out four North Stars on the night.

A few days off for the Knights, before they kick off the North District Tournament in Havre on Thursday afternoon.

In other American Legion action, the Medicine Hat Moose Monarchs picked up their ninth loss in ten games on Saturday, dropping a 16-1 decision to the Missoula Mavericks.

Brendan Kuhn was the lone Monarchs hitter to drive in a run on Saturday, with the team being outhit 14-9 by the Mavericks.

On the mound, Ethan Ropcean was pulled after four innings, while the Mavericks pounced in the sixth inning with eight runs on the board.

The back-half of their series with Missoula is on Sunday afternoon south of the border.

As for the Saamis Rotary Majestics, they continued their road swing in Calgary against a pair of teams.

On Saturday, the Majestics rolled to two victories over the Calgary Giants and Calgary Pirates, 5-0 and 6-1, respectively.

Squaring off against the Giants on Sunday morning, the Majestics scored six runs in the first inning en-route to a dominant 13-3 win over five innings.

Adam Klick was outstanding at the plate for Medicine Hat, going 2-4 with three RBIs in the morning matchup.

It was a complete game effort for starting pitcher Tyran George, who allowed two earned runs on just five hits and piled on a pair of strikeouts.
