OKOTOKS, AB – A mid-July slump continued for the Medicine Hat Mavericks (18-17) on Saturday evening, as they were handed their fourth consecutive loss 9-3 by the Okotoks Dawgs (24-10).

The Mavericks drew first blood in the first inning, with Blake Rowlett crossing home plate and giving the visiting side an early 1-0 lead.

It was a rough first start for Brady Tedesco on the mound for Medicine Hat, as a Matt Lloyd single with a pair of runners on base cashed in two runs to put Okotoks ahead.

The Dawgs added two more runs before the end of the inning, building up a 4-1 lead on the Mavericks after the first.

Medicine Hat cut into that three-run deficit in the third inning, with Louie Canjura picking up a single and scoring David Salgueiro from second base.

Okotoks built up a three-run lead again in the fifth inning following a Kody Funderburk single, before Colton Wright made it a 5-3 contest in the seventh inning for Medicine Hat.

All hopes of a comeback were erased in the eighth inning however, with the Dawgs scoring four runs off Michael Carr and hanging on for a 9-3 victory.

Tedesco was credited with the loss, pitching through six innings with five earned runs given up on eight hits and four strikeouts.

Wright was the top hitter on the night for Medicine Hat, going 3-4 at the plate with a pair of RBIs.

It was a rough road trip for the Mavericks as they lost all three games by a combined score of 28-13, and now tied with the Edmonton Prospects for third place in the Western Division.

The rematch goes on Sunday afternoon between Medicine Hat and Okotoks, with opening pitch at Athletic Park set for 2:05 pm.
