MEDICINE HAT, AB — Police responded to a report of suspicious activity on the South East Hill just after midnight Saturday.

Upon arrival, officers found a male exiting a confirmed stolen vehicle out of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.

Police ordered the male suspect to follow directions, however, the suspect refused to listen.

“He actually reached into the vehicle briefly, into the drivers side. Then he was challenged again and surrendered himself at that point to police without any further incident,” Staff/Sgt Mark Fentiman said.

After police placed the suspect into custody, officers found a loaded 12 gauge shot gun under the drivers seat with several additional rounds inside the vehicle.  Equipment used for breaking and entering were also found, as well as a prohibited knife hidden tucked in his waistband.

He was found to be in breach of three firearms prohibition orders from previous criminal convictions.

The 31 year-old Saskatchewan man is waiting for his bail hearing on Saturday afternoon.

He is facing charges of:

-Possession of stolen property over $5000.00
-Possess break in instruments
-6 counts of breaching his Prohibition Orders
-Carrying a concealed weapon
-2 counts of possession of dangerous weapons
-Unauthorized possession of a firearm
-Possession of a loaded firearm
-Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle

Police are thanking the community for helping them detect this male and helping police remove him and a firearm from our community.

“The community are the police and the police are community,” Sgt Fentiman said.  “In this particular case it took something that could have been obviously potentially really dangerous off the street. So we are very thankful.”
