ALERT arrest 16 following child pornography investigation

EDMONTON — The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit have arrested 16 men for child pornography offences following a three month investigation.

The investigation, called Operation Icebreaker, started in April, and ran until June 5. The unit targeted suspects who allegedly accessed child pornography in southern Alberta. Of the 16 arrested, 11 are from Calgary. None of the cases are linked, according to the news release.

In addition to the arrests, investigators also discovered two underage luring victims.

The 16 arrested are:

-Adam Adler, 39, of Calgary.

-Marvin Agboro, 18, of Strathmore.

-Darian Blanchard, 21, of Red Deer.

-Brent Bulycz, 42, of Calgary.

-Curtis Brock, 27, of Airdrie.

-Yency Gomez, 38 of Calgary.

-Andrew Halliday, 28, of Red Deer.

-Ryland Jacklin, 28, of Airdrie.

-Kyle Jacobson, 32, of Calgary.

-Devin Lamont, 27, of Calgary.

-Mikael Macek, 25, of Calgary.

– Brandon McKnight, 23, of Calgary.

– Ole Olsen, 38, of Calgary.

– David Steele, 44, of Calgary.

– John Stewart, 47, of Calgary.

– A 16-year-old young offender from Calgary

All 16 are facing a total of 56 charges.

The Internet Child Exploitation Unit, which consists of members of Calgary Police, Lethbridge Police, Medicine Hat Police, and RCMP, seized 510 computers and electronic devices, consisting of 28 terabytes of data. So far, 161 of the devices have been examined, with police uncovering more than 6,800 photos and videos containing child pornography, with some of the victims as young as infants.

The unit says more charges could be laid after the inspection of devices is completed.
