MEDICINE HAT, AB – Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan’s Gary Gorst was the fastest driver on Day 2 of the Medicine Hat WPCA chuckwagon races on Friday.

Coming off the first barrel in heat nine, Gorst rode his team to a penalty-free time of 1:02.21 which was good enough to launch him into first place.

Chad Fike finished half a second back of Gorst with a time of 1:02.77, while Obrey Motowylo was the third fastest racer on the night with a time of 1:02.79.

Opening day leader Kurt Bensmiller finished third in his heat on Friday with a time of 1:03.86, dropping him down to second in the aggregate standings.

Gorst’s aggregate lead is a slim one heading into Day 3 of the races, as his time of 2:05.30 is just one-hundredth of a second faster than Bensmiller.

Luke Tournier currently holds the bronze medal position in the aggregate standings, with his two-day total clocking in at 2:05.40.

Friday night’s races were overshadowed by a major crash in the opening heat between Dayton Sutherland and Blaid Flad, which resulted in one horse being euthanized by a veterinarian that evening.

Day 3 of the WPCA races from Medicine Hat gets started at 7:00 pm from the Stampede Grounds, with the Dash for Cash championship races getting started on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm.
