MEDICINE HAT, AB — He’s been involved with local sports almost as soon as he arrived in the city, and now Dr. Ken Sauer is taking his place in a spot many say is long overdue.

Sauer became the latest inductee into the Medicine Hat Sports Wall of Fame Wednesday evening at the Family Leisure Centre. Sauer was inducted for “his volunteerism, dedication and leadership as a community builder in sports and recreation,” according to a release from the city earlier this month.

Sauer has been involved with sports in the community for many years. Through the years, he has served as vice chairman and director of administration to the Alberta Winter and Summer Games, as well as treasurer for the Medicine Hat Baseball Canada Cup Society and chairman of the City of Medicine Hat Recreation Master Plan Committee, among other accomplishments.

The award is the latest in a long list of awards for Sauer. He was named a member of the Order of Canada in 2008 and was inducted into the Alberta Order of Excellence in 2009.

The Sports Wall of Fame is dedicated to showcase Medicine Hat’s sports leaders and honour significant individuals and teams.
