MEDICINE HAT, AB — Mr. Lube, CHAT 94.5 FM and the Medicine Hat and District Food Bank are out collecting items for the youngest members of the community who need help.

The Basics for Babies fundraiser has been underway since 5:30 a.m. at Mr. Lube, and runs until 6 p.m.

Residents are dropping off donations of diapers, baby food, formula and money to help purchase the items.

“Medicine Hat is the most amazing community,” said Celina Symmonds, co-executive director of the Medicine Hat and District Food Bank. “Every time we come forward with an ask, we have people lining up in droves to help us, and we’re so very thankful for that.”

Symmonds says baby supplies and food are something they organization is always in need of.

“What we need to remember is families who are in need of food are also in need of all of these other items as well,” she said. “Anything we can do to help families who are living in poverty, we want to be part of the solution.”

Chris Hellman, owner-operator of Mr. Lube, says he was made aware of the need for diapers and baby items by the Food Bank and CHAT, and wanted to get involved.

“It’s always great to help your community, especially something like the Food Bank, which is in such high demand right now.” he said.

Mr. Lube also donated $10 from every oil change today towards the cause.

By the end of the event, $14,462 was raised for the Food Bank.
