Second sinkhole opens up downtown

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Just days after a sinkhole opened up downtown, city crews were called out to a second one, just feet from the first.

Crews were on scene Tuesday afternoon helping direct traffic around the hole.

Last week, a sinkhole opened up at the crosswalk in front of the Medicine Hat & District Chamber of Commerce office.

City officials said it was caused from old sewer infrastructure which had collapsed.

The most recent sinkhole is at Sixth Avenue and Fourth Street, but towards the middle of the intersection.

City crews completed a temporary patch of the hole on Tuesday, with full repair work scheduled for a later date, according to Brandy Calvert, communications officer with the city.
