Sun Devils fall flat against winless Yettis

SYLVAN LAKE, AB – Another step back for the Medicine Hat Sun Devils (3-5), as they lost their third consecutive game 14-10 to the Sylvan Lake Yettis (1-4) on Saturday.

The Yettis got out to a 3-0 lead with goals from Tristan Tubbs, Sam Stacey, and Braydon McLaughlin less than 13 minutes into the game.

Aidan McLean scored one with just over seven minutes left in the first period to get the Sun Devils on the board, but a Luke Capton goal before the end of the frame would vault Sylvan Lake to a 4-1 lead.

In the second period, Medicine Hat goals from McLean and Mason Appell cut the deficit to 4-3, but four straight goals from Sylvan Lake’s Hunter Thudium put the Yettis in the driver’s seat.

The Sun Devils found the back of the net three times courtesy of Tanner Dynes, Tanner Simpson, and Daniel Drefs but still trailed by a 10-6 score.

Medicine Hat scored four times in the third to keep the pressure on, but Sylvan Lake responded each time as they picked up their first victory of the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League season.

McLean was the top scorer for the Sun Devils with three goals and a helper, but it was Thudium’s night for the Yettis as he torched Medicine Hat for six goals and one assist.

The Sun Devils continue their road trip on Sunday afternoon, as they take on the 4-2 Red Deer Renegades at 3:00 pm.
