Superheroes raise funds for SPCA

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Superheroes and their trusted sidekicks pounded the pavement Saturday as part of the Superhero fun run/walk.

It was in support of the Medicine Hat SPCA.

The local shelter was looking to raise $10,000. The money will go towards helping care for the animals before they find their forever homes.

“Paying for vet bills, when they come in, paying for their food, any care they may need and just making sure they have everything they need to go to a good home,” said Kristina Segall, vice president with the local shelter.

Segall also said the facility itself is also in need of some major work.

“Big plans are going to come out in the future but if anyone has been there, they know SPCA is falling apart. After 20 years, over 10,000 animals, we need major renovations, just even for the health of the animals.

Joggers, walkers and their four-legged friends completed a 3 kilometre loop near the family leisure centre.

Awards were given out for best dressed individual and best dressed dog.
