CALGARY — Canadian Pacific will celebrate the history and importance of the railway to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday

Starting July 28 in Port Moody, B.C., CP will run a summer train tour in 13 cities and towns across the country. The trip will complete a west-to-east version of the first transcontinental trip, which ran from Montreal to Port Moody in 1886. The train tour will stop in Montreal on August 13, before ending in Ottawa on August 20.

The train is scheduled to make two stops in Alberta. Calgary will see the train on July 30 in the south parking lot of the Anderson C-train station from 3-6 p.m. The train travels to Edmonton on July 31, stopping south of the CP Rail Yard at 7935 Gateway Boulevard. The event in Edmonton runs from 5-8 p.m.

The tour will feature several Royal Canadian Pacific heritage cars, which have hosted Prime Minister John A. Macdonald, Princess Elizabeth and Prince Phillip (pre-coronation), Maurice “Rocket” Richard and John F. Kennedy, among others.

The tour also features the Spirit of Tomorrow, a special railcar which, as it moves across Canada, will be decorated with thousands of handwritten cards from children outlining their dreams for the future. CP will be inviting kids at every stop to contribute to decorating this car, which will be included in CP’s Holiday Train program for 2017.

Each stop on the tour will also feature performances from Aboriginal entertainer and world champion hoop dancer Dallas Arcand and Canadian country music superstar Dean Brody.
