Lift station construction prompts trail closure near Police Point Park

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Construction of a new lift station for Crescent Heights is prompting a trail closure near Police Point Park.

Starting immediately, a portion of trailing along the north bank of the South Saskatchewan River will be closed until next spring as a result of the demolition and deconstruction of the current lift station.

The Crescent Heights lift station was built in 1961 and is one of three lift stations being upgraded by the city. The new stations are being built at a higher elevation and with other flood-proofing measures to ensure it remains operational during a potential flood. A new pipeline will also be installed from the new lift station to Police Point Park to support future development.

Signs have been posted along the trail for frequent users, and the Interpretive Centre in the park has a display with information about the project. The portion of the trail that is closed will be an active construction site, and will contain open excavations and other hazards. Residents are reminded to obey all construction signs and trail closures.
