MEDICINE HAT, AB – Tomorrow is Earth Day, the day where people across the globe demonstrate acts to help our environment.

The Medicine Hat Paddling Club is getting ready for its second annual spring creek clean-up.

The club will be cleaning up trash around the Seven Persons Creek in Kin Coulee Park.

This year, the event is in conjunction with the City of Medicine Hat’s Litter Blitz.

The paddling club is specifically focusing on the area from the Highway One dip at Kin Coulee, down to the South Saskatchewan River, while the city is focusing on different areas around the city.

Rick Redmond, president of the Medicine Hat Paddling Club, says it’s important to keep the river clean so kayakers can continue to paddle locally.

“The Seven Persons Creek is a real nice paddling destination – whether there’s an evening, weekend, or a Saturday afternoon – to paddle safely through the heart of Medicine Hat,” says Redmond. “We put a big effort in last year. We spent four days cleaning last year and a lot of our club members got out. We got a lot of nice kayaking on it last summer.”

Chuckling, Redmond adds that there were shopping carts, shoes, and even bicycles found last year.

Anyone is welcome to register online for free to help out the Seven Persons Creek Clean-Up crew.

The city will provide all registered Litter Blitz participants with a free BBQ lunch.
