MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat College handed out its prestigious Business Person of the Year award to not one, but two business people this year.

Perry and Chris Deering, owners of Deerview Meats, received the award at the college’s Connecting Students to Business Dinner Thursday evening. The husband and wife are first business team to receive the award.

“This is a pretty big honour,” said Perry. “My wife Chris and I, we’ve been at these functions before, and we’ve seen the entrepreneurs and the business people that have received these awards in the past, so to be part of that group is pretty amazing.”

Deerview Meats, a meat-processing business, has been operating since 2006.

The event gives business students at the college an opportunity to learn from business owners and entrepreneurs about how to achieve success in business. Perry says aspiring entrepreneurs have to keep listening from people who have made it in the business world.

“It’s not an easy road,” he said. “Lots of times, it’s important to be patient, pay attention to a lot of the mentors around you.

“These are the people that give you the tools that kind of get you to the next step.”
