CRANBROOK, BC — A deal has be struck between the Chynoweth Family and two Winnipeg businessmen to sell the Kootenay ICE — pending approval by the WHL Board of Governors.

Entrepreneur Greg Fettes and hockey executive Matt Cockell are taking possession of the team. Fetts brings more than 20 years of experience in sales, marketing and operations. Cockell has 17 years of hockey experience to his name, which include being a member of the Canada National Women’s Hockey Team that won gold at Sochi 2014.

Cockell, along with his family, plan on moving to Cranbrook, BC and will take over as president and general manager of the ICE.

“Our family is looking forward to becoming an active community member, and we are excited to engage directly with some of the greatest fans in the entire Western Hockey League,” said Cockell in a Kootenay ICE press release.
