MEDICINE HAT, AB — Details about provincial funding for Medicine Hat College were released on Thursday.

The college is receiving $4.3 million from the government to improve access to the college for students and community members with disabilities.

The development will take place on the East portion of the campus, and includes renovation work to improve access to the school’s gymnasium space. The project will replace the aging wheelchair lift with a passenger elevator, and include a wheelchair accessible ramp at the gymnasium exit.

In addition, the funding will also be used to upgrade sanitary infrastructure in an attempt to reduce maintenance costs. The sewer lines which service the college’s main building and east campus are nearly 50 years old and require improvements.

The upgrades get underway in 2018.
