DUNMORE, AB — The Prairie Rose School Division welcomed its three newest trustees today.

Lois Bedwell and Lucille Hertz from Ward One, along with new Ward Four trustee Pamela Cursons, were officially sworn in during the board’s regular meeting Tuesday morning.

Bedwell and Hertz were elected last week in a special byelection for the ward, which covers Oyen, New Brigden and Acadia Valley. The ward did not have representation after the 2015 resignation of trustees Patti Machell in 2015 and Christie Dick in January.

Cursons, who represents Redcliff, Ralston and Jenner, was acclaimed after trustee Bob Wickens resigned in January.

Work will get underway quick for the trustees, as the issue of New Brigden School will be at the forefront of discussion.

The division will host a meeting on March 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the school to discuss options with the community about its future. The school reported only two students enrolled for the 2016 school year.

The board will announce the decision about the school and whether or not it will close at its regular meeting on April 11.
