Barbara Holmes ordered to stand trial for second-degree murder

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The woman accused of murdering her husband last year has been ordered to stand trial.

A judge at the Medicine Hat Provincial Court ruled Barbara Holmes, 51, will go to trial later this year. Holmes was arrested in June of last year and was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of her husband John following an incident at their home on June 18.

John Holmes was found inside the home suffering from serious injuries. He was taken to hospital, but later died. 

A publication ban remains in effect on details released during the hearing.

Holmes makes her next appearance in the Court of Queen’s Bench on May 12 at 10 a.m. to enter her plea. A date for trial will likely be set during the hearing.
