Carbon tax has impacted a majority of Albertans: new poll

EDMONTON, AB — Alberta’s carbon tax has had an impact on a majority of Albertans, according to a new poll.

The poll, conducted by Mainstreet Research and Postmedia shows 51 per cent of Albertans said the provincial carbon tax, implemented at the start of the year, has had a major impact on their lives, while 42 per cent said the has had a minor impact.

According to the poll, the results are much different in Edmonton compared to the rest of the province, with 63 per cent there saying the carbon tax has had a minor impact on their lives, compared to the provincial average. Among rural Albertans, 58 per cent say the tax has had an impact on their lives.

The new poll also finds there is slightly more support for the carbon tax compared to a previous poll late last year. The percentage of those surveyed opposed to the tax sits at 64 per cent, down two per cent from December, while 34 per cent support the tax, up five per cent.
