Police are warning drivers of icy driving conditions in Southern Alberta

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Southern Alberta was hit with another snow storm last night, with temperatures dropping at the same time, causing icy roads for today’s morning commute.

The dangerous driving conditions has prompted a warning from police.

Redcliff RCMP Constable Shane Ryan is urging drivers to postpone driving if possible.  But if that is not possible, to ensure they’re driving to the road conditions.

“While driving, make sure to slow down,” he said.  “You don’t drive necessarily to the speed limit but to the road conditions themselves.”

“Make sure to keep a safe distance between you and the vehicle ahead of you to give yourself time to stop so you don’t slide into them.”

Currently, 10 accidents have been reported in the last 12 hours due to the slippery roads.

Ryan is reminding commuters of the safety of seatbelts, stressing they be worn especially in conditions like today.

“We want everybody to make sure they wear their seatbelts at all times, especially during severe weather,” he said.
