Medicine Hat, AB — The Ed Horvath InterProvincial Classic Ringette Tournament is such a big tournament it needs to be held over two weekends. Hundreds of ringette players flooded the Kinplex for the second installment of this year’s tourney as more than 20 teams hit the ice.

In the marquee U14A championship Sunday morning the Medicine Hat Attack were looking to defend their title from last year. Taking on the Calgary NW Allegro, the Attack lived up to their name scoring five goals in the opening period.

Up 5-1 heading into the second, Medicine Hat showed they’re not just an offensive team. The Attack held Calgary at bay throughout the whole game finishing with a 6-2 win, the championship banner, and of course a bevy of gold medals.

“I think if we’re known for anything it’s our tight defensive play and our aggressive forecheck,” said Attack Head Coach Marty Robinson following the contest. “We really like to get in on teams and not let them out of their own zone.”

The Attack are heading to Rolling Hills next weekend for provincial playdowns, and player Ashlyn Seale says this weekend will help the team as they gear up for it.

“I think it’s going to help a lot,” she said. “This really helps us prepare for the pressure and what we’re going to have to go through.”

If the Attack can advance in playdowns next weekend they’ll move onto provincials which are being held the weekend of March 11th.
