INTERVIEWS: Key weekend for Tigers, Schneider starts vs. Hitmen

CALGARY, AB — It’s a key weekend for the Medicine Hat Tigers. They’re in Calgary Friday night to battle the Hitmen and then host the Lethbridge Hurricanes Saturday.

The Tabbies come into the weekend six points up on the Hurricanes for the Central Division lead. They’ve also won seven of the last eight games, scoring over five goals on average per game.

Head coach and GM Shaun Clouston confirmed to CHAT TV’s Mitch Bach Friday afternoon that Nick Schneider will take the crease in Calgary.

Schneider’s numbers have slipped over the last few weeks. The 19-year-old Calgary Flames prospect has been yanked in three of his last eight starts. Clouston said Schneider’s energy needs a boost after starting a large majority of games in the first half of the season. He’s hopeful once Schneider rests up and regains his strength, he’ll return to his usual, impressive self.

The Calgary Hitmen come into this weekend losing eight of their last 10 games. Their poor record of late has dropped them two points out of the final wild-card position in the Eastern Conference.

Mason Shaw leads all Tigers with seven points over four games against Calgary this season. On top of his strong showing against the Hitmen, he also boasts the longest active point streak in the WHL at 15 games.

Puck drop at the Scotiabank Saddledome is set for 7:00 p.m. Friday night. Saturday’s contest against the Lethbridge Hurricanes at the Canalta Centre begins at 7:30 p.m. Bob Ridley goes live on CHAT 94.5 FM for both games, beginning with the pre-game show up to 30 minutes before puck drop.
