VULCAN – After nearly two months, Vulcan RCMP have finally wrapped up investigations into a series of thefts from nearby oilfield sites.

Charges were laid against Richard Rossi, 53, in December 2016, after five investigations were conducted into thefts from oilfield sites near the small town. Warrants for his arrest were obtained later that same month, while the investigations continued.

Then on February 1, Rossi was arrested in Vulcan, and charged with 16 more counts related to thefts from Vulcan and Stavely oilfield sites. He was given a bail hearing and remanded into custody.

He entered guilty pleas at the Lethbridge Provincial court on February 3 for the following:

– two counts of failing to attend court;
– theft over $5,000;
– two counts of theft under $5,000;
– possession of property obtained by crime;
– two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.

Rossi is now serving a six month jail sentence, and will be subject to one year of probation upon his release.
