Tigers snap US Division drought with 6-5 win over Tri-City

Kennewick, WA — Matt Bradley had a four point night and Mason Shaw extended his league leading active point streak to 14 games as the Tigers beat Tri-City 6-5 Saturday to capture their first win against a US Division opponent this season.

Medicine Hat stormed out of the gate with a three goal first period. Jordan Henderson set up Bradley to start off the scoring 3:22 in, then Steven Owre and Max Gerlach both found the back of the net before the first twenty was up. Gerlach notched his team-leading 30th with help from Bradley and Shaw.

The Tigers would increase their lead to 4-0 in the second when James Hamblin scored his 15th of the year short handed. Tri-City slashed the Tigers lead in half before the period was done though as Vladislav Lukin and Jordan Topping scored in the last five minutes before intermission.

In the third Shaw gave Medicine Hat a three goal cushion at the 3:56 mark with assists from Clayton Kirichenko and Bradley before the Americans would make things interesting in the last five minutes. Juuso Valimaki and Morgan Geekie scored 1:24 apart making it a 5-4 game.

An empty netter by Bradley with just over 30 seconds to play sewed things up for the Tigers, though Tri-City added another on Lukin’s second of the evening with only 4 seconds left.

With the win the Tigers finish their three game western road trip with a 2-1 record. They now head home to face Prince Albert at the Canalta Centre Wednesday night at 7 pm.
