MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Regional Hospital said it’s working to improve the experience patients have when they need to visit the Emergency Room

The Health Quality Council of Alberta created a website comparing 16 emergency departments across the province.

Medicine Hat performed better when it came to hospital wait times, but when it came to overall experience the regional hospital ranked second lowest in the province among similar sized facilities, with a rating of 77 per cent.

Interim Chief South Zone Officer Linda Iwasiw said Alberta Health Services will now be looking to patients to find out what needs to be done.

“We’re starting to introduce patient advisers, we’re talking about patient family advisers on the emergency department quality patient flow team.” she said.

“We need to get our patient input and we need to get the information in front of our staff and physicians to get their input and to get their understanding of what’s contributing to it.”
