MEDICINE HAT, AB — Details of Premier Rachel Notley’s visit to Medicine Hat were released late Thursday afternoon.

The premier will be arriving Friday and is scheduled to make a funding announcement at Medicine Hat College at 10:30 A.M. This will be Premier Notley’s first visit to Medicine Hat since April 2015, a month before she was elected.

According to an official release, Notley will announce details of the first “business incubator” to be funded through the Alberta Entrepreneurship Incubator Program.

According to officials at the college, this will create a space or an office where start-up businesses can go for mentorship, advice and coaching to help grow their business. More information will be available following the announcement from the NDP.

The schedule also includes a visit to the Strathcona Centre at noon to meet with seniors.

Notley’s visit to the city will wrap up with a meeting with the mayor and city councillors at 1:15 p.m.

Mayor Ted Clugston said he’s been trying to meet or even speak with the premier for more than a year.

Clugston said he wanted to share the concerns residents and local businesses had about policies like the carbon tax and the minimum wage increases.

With both of those things having happened without any chance to speak with the premier, Clugston has said his push will be for the NDP government to put Medicine Hat to the top of mind when considering funding for their renewable energy projects.

Over the next 5 years, $9.6 billion in revenue is predicted to be generated from the carbon tax and other climate plans. Of the money, $3.4 billion is expected to go towards large scale renewable energy, bioenergy and technology. Details of the programs and who will be receiving money has not been made public.
