Tabbies complete two-game sweep over Ice

CRANBROOK, B.C.  —  The Medicine Hat Tigers are on a roll.

The energy line of Max Gerlach, James Hamblin, and Mark Rassell combined for seven points as the Tabbies completed a home-and-home series sweep with a 6-2 victory in Cranbrook, B.C. Wednesday night.

Gerlach scored twice, his 28th and 29th respectively, and needs just one more to match his career high set in his rookie season last year. He added a helper on Hamblin’s game winning goal early in the third period. This is the Flower Mound, TX product’s 10th multi-point performance.

Rassell scored midway through the second period, his second in as many nights, to give the Tigers a 2-nothing lead. 

Kootenay ended Michael Bullion’s bid for a shutout with less than three minutes left in the middle frame. Brett Davis got the Ice on the board, scoring for the third time in two games.

Vince Loschiavo tied the game early in the third period, putting the pressure on the Tabbies. 

Hamblin sparked a third period flurry for the visiting team. After scoring the go-ahead goal, the Tigers found the twine three times in the span of 1:58 including markers from Gerlach, Matt Bradley, and rookie Gary Haden.

Medicine Hat hasn’t lost to Kootenay since March of 2016. They hold a 5-0 record against the Ice this season, and are riding a five-game winning streak.

Bullion made 23 saves in his 7th win with the Tigers, while Payton Lee faced 41 shots in the loss.

The Tigers return to action with a pair of games south of the boarder this upcoming weekend. On Friday, they’re in Spokane, taking on Jordan Henderson’s former Chiefs. That’s followed up with a date with Bullion’s former team, the Tri-City Americans on Saturday.
