City crews take advantage of warm weekend

Medicine Hat, AB — Before the snow hit Monday afternoon city crews took advantage of the unseasonably warm weekend we just went through.

Street sweepers targeted heavily used areas as they tried to alleviate some of the dust that had been swirling around. Some problem potholes around the city were also fixed.

“We can get on top of some stuff,” says Municipal Works Manager of Operations Jeremy Petryshyn.

As the weather turned Monday Petryshyn agreed southern Alberta winters keep his department on their toes.

“It’s very  much a fluid operation,” he said. “Temperatures are going to turn colder tonight and they’re calling for freezing rain, snow, so we’ll be back into our snow and ice control operations maybe as early as tonight or tomorrow morning.

Petryshyn adds it’s been a pretty average winter so far for them, with the exception of the brutal cold stretches we’ve experienced.
