WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Keystone XL pipeline is back on the table.

U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday to approve construction of the controversial pipeline, which was blocked by the Obama administration partly due to environmental concerns.

The pipeline would run from Alberta to Nebraska where it would connect to existing lines running to U.S. refineries on the Gulf Coast. The U.S. government needs to approve the pipeline because it would cross the nation’s northern border.

Jim Carr, Minister of Natural Resources, has said approval of the pipeline would be positive for Canada. All approvals for the pipeline are in place on the Canadian side.

In addition to Keystone XL, President Trump also signed an executive order to approve the Dakota Access pipeline, and also signed a notice requiring material for the pipelines to be constructed in the United States.
