MEDICINE HAT, AB — A local energy company is once again providing funds to assist Medicine Hat College students.

Spectra Energy announced a donation of $2,500 towards scholarships for students in the college’s electrician program. The company has been donating money for scholarships since 2011 and says it is important to keep giving back to smaller projects, even when the energy industry is struggling.

“Budgets have been cut, but wherever possible we still want to support all the projects we have in the past, and I’m happy Spectra Energy can continue to make this donation,” said Lyle Golby, land and public awareness agent with Spectra Energy, in a news release. “The college and the students seem to appreciate whatever we can do.”

“The electrical program and our students will definitely benefit from this gift,” says Joe Grove, coordinator of the electrical program. “Going to school is a financial strain, so providing scholarships helps students who need it.”
