Kenney gets support for his unite the right platform

Medicine Hat, AB— Over two hundred people filled into a room at the South Side Centre Wednesday night for a town hall meeting being hosted by Jason Kenney.

The Progressive Conservative Party leadership candidate is running on a platform to unite the PC and Wildrose parties under one banner heading into the 2019 provincial election.

Kenney told the crowd that the only way to defeat the NDP is to do so in a united front. He said ultimately his goal is to bring back the Alberta advantage, something he says can be accomplished by creating a free enterprise party.

“Restoring investor confidence in Alberta, stop fiddling— imposing new regulations that increase costs,” he said. “Getting the tax rates back down to be the most competitive in Canada to attract investment, that’s what creates jobs.”

A round of applause broke out when he told the room if elected in 2019, his first order of business would be to repeal the Carbon tax.

Many who attended the event said they came out to learn more about Kenney’s unite the right plan, and supported the idea.

One man said he came all the way from Red Deer to hear Kenney’s message.

“It was very informative, and I’m backing him,” he said after the event. He added that uniting the right just makes sense. “If we don’t have the seats we don’t have the power, so in order to get the liberal parties off their seats I think it’s important to unite Alberta.”

After the event, Kenney said he’s been receiving overwhelming support from Albertans who want to unite the right. He added that he wants to see both the PC and Wildrose parties united even if it means he isn’t the leader of the united party.

“The future of our province is at stake and I’m not prepared to risk it for a party brand or party label,” he said.
