STRATHMORE, AB – Strathmore RCMP are investigating a fatal hit-and-run which occurred on the Trans-Canada highway near Strathmore Wednesday morning.

At approximately 7:00 a.m., Strathmore RCMP responded to a single vehicle rollover involving a SUV on the eastbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway west of Strathmore. Witnesses report the vehicle was travelling at high speeds prior to losing control and rolling. A man is believed to have walked away from the collision, but was struck by another vehicle shortly after.

Police believe the man was hit by at least one vehicle, potentially more.

Two teenage girls inside the vehicle were transported to Foothills Hospital with serious injuries after being thrown from the vehicle. A fifth occupant was taken to Strathmore hospital as a precaution.

The SUV involved was reported stolen out of Calgary earlier this month.

Eastbound traffic on Highway 1 was reduced to a single lane as RCMP collision analysts investigated the collision through the day.
