Six farms no longer under Bovine TB quarantine

Dec 15, 2016 | 9:40 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB —There’s some good news in an otherwise bleak situation for ranchers in southeastern Alberta.

The Canadian Food Inspection agency announced six farms are no longer under quarantine over concerns of bovine tuberculosis.

Roughly 50 properties are still under quarantine, about five of those are across the border in Saskatchewan.

Government officials continue to test cattle on farms and say they should be done by the middle of January.

But that doesn’t mean the quarantine will be lifted anytime soon.

CFIA officials say there are other tests that still need to be done once the initial testing has been completed.

Government officials are hoping to have compensation in the hands of affected ranchers before the holidays.
