Oct 30, 2026 | 10:20 AM

A 45-year-old man from Bow Island has been sentenced to 12 months of probation and $1,750 in fines for his involvement in a property theft investigation by the Bow Island RCMP.

Nicholas Grunwald pleaded guilty to trafficking in property obtained by crime and was sentenced to probation and a $1,500 fine on Tuesday in a Medicine Hat courtroom.

He also pleaded guilty to failure to comply with a release order and received a $250 fine.

Grunwald had a possession of stolen property charge against him withdrawn.

Bow Island RCMP began an investigation on Jan. 19, 2026, in Forty Mile County, after the alleged victim of a break and enter two to four weeks before discovered that his property was for sale on Kijiji.

Mouties said items the suspects were alleged to have stolen included dirt bikes, tools, and various vehicle parts.

The victim located the buyer, and police determined the buyer was unaware of the break and enter.

He then provided information to the police to assist in the investigation.

The RCMP executed a search warrant in Bow Island on Jan. 25, 2026, where they recovered a dirt bike and a vintage hood ornament belonging to the victim.

Mounties then charged Grunwald and Courtney Scouten.

The 34-year-old Scouten from Bow Island still faces a charge of possession of stolen property.

She will appear in the Medicine Hat Court of the King’s Bench on Nov. 4 to set a trial date.
