The Medicine Hat Dynamic Industrial Cubs host two Heritage Junior Hockey League games at the Kinplex Arena this weekend.

On Friday, the Cubs face the Carstar Okotoks Bisons at 7:30 p.m.

A team the Cubs by two points for first place in the Gary Wournell South Division.

Last weekend in Okotoks, the Bisons won against the Cubs 4-3, scoring the game-winner with just 32 seconds left.

The Cubs enter the game with a 7-2 record; the Bisons are 8-2 and on a three-game winning streak, after snapping the Cubs’ five-game winning streak last Saturday.

A few familiar faces are in the Bisons lineup for Medicine Hat hockey fans.

Bisons forward Connor Chapman played with the Cubs last season, forward Garrison Peck played two seasons with the South Alberta Hockey Academy, and goaltender Carson Jerome played a season with the SEAC Tigers U17 AAA team.

The Bisons will enter the game with five players in the top ten in league scoring: Jakob Semeniuk, Zephyr Laplante, Nathan Flanagan, Seamus Garagan, and Chapman.

By contrast, Medicine Hat has two forwards in the top twenty, with Cole Fisher at 15th and Colby Gulliver at 18th.

Shutting down the Bisons’ offence appears to be a key for the Cubs to come out on top.

On Sunday, the Cubs host the Airdrie Techmation Thunder at 3 p.m.

The Thunder sit third in the Don Lunn North Division with four wins, four losses, and an overtime loss.

They have lost three straight games, but host the 0-10 expansion Quality Rimbey Royals on Friday.

Airdrie has three players in the top 20 in league scoring.

That includes two 2009-born forwards, Nathan Cole at 10th and Zachery Hall at 16th. 2005-born forward Tyson Sandhu sits at 11th.

Cole played the 2025-26 season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League with the Drayton Valley Thunder and was drafted by the Kelowna Rockets in the second round, 33rd overall during the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft.

Friday night will also be the first time Cubs fans will get to see the ‘C’ on Brodie Heimbecker at the Kinplex.

The Cubs had named the defenceman team captain before last weekend’s two road games.

A 2007-born player from Balgonie, Sask., Heimbecker played last season with the Waywayseecappo Wolverines in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
