Richard Adam Van Orman
It is with deep love and gratitude that we celebrate the life of Richard Van Orman, whose quiet strength, unwavering faith, and devoted love for his family left a lasting legacy on all who knew him.
Born on June 6, 1948, in Taber, Alberta, Richard was the fourth of nine children born to Van and Bird Van Orman. Raised on the family farm near Taber, he learned at an early age the value of hard work, responsibility, resilience, and service.
The greatest blessing of Richard’s life began when he met Karen. Their marriage became the center of his world, built upon love, faith, perseverance, and mutual devotion. Together they created a home where family came first, weathering challenges with courage and celebrating life’s many joys side by side.
Richard was a devoted father who found immense joy in each of his children: Vicki, Ryan, Warren, Jordan, and Janae. His love extended naturally to his grandchildren, with whom he especially treasured camping trips, family vacations, and simply spending time together often while playing card games.
He unexpectedly found his life’s work in accounting. What began as an unforeseen opportunity became a rewarding career spanning decades in accounting and healthcare administration, where his integrity, dependability, and wisdom earned the respect of colleagues and friends alike.
Richard’s faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of his life. From his childhood through adulthood, he found purpose and direction in his beliefs, trusting in the Lord through seasons of joy, uncertainty, and hardship. He served faithfully in many callings within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including more than 25 years in Scouting. He specifically valued the time he served as bishop, counselor in the stake presidency, full-time missionary, and service missionary. He believed that showing up, serving others, and doing his best was enough and the Lord would magnify his efforts.
Richard will be remembered for his gentle nature, steady presence, dry sense of humor, thoughtful counsel, and unwavering example of discipleship. He taught by the way he lived—that faithful service, enduring love, honest work, and quiet trust in God create a life of extraordinary significance.
He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and joyfully reunited with those who have gone before him.
“I lived well. I loved well. I received blessings beyond anything I deserved. For a mortal life, that is more than enough.”
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 11th, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Cresent Heights location) at 1:00pm.
