Andrew Smith

1974 ~ 2026

With the family in our thoughts and on their behalf, we respectfully announce the passing of Andrew Smith, beloved husband of Kelly of Medicine Hat. Andrew passed away at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary on Monday June 29, 2026, at the age of 52.

Andrew was born on May 18, 1974, in Hong Kong. He was raised in Winlaton and Blaydon, Tyne and Wear, England where he attended West Lane School and Blaydon Comprehensive School.

Andrew met the love of his life, Kelly Abbey, and together they built a beautiful life together after marrying on March 19, 1994, in Medicine Hat, Alberta.

A carpenter by trade, Andrew was a true craftsman who could turn his hand to just about anything. He was hardworking, dedicated and a perfectionist who took pride in everything he did. Those who knew Andrew will remember his caring and kind heart, his dry ‘Geordie’ sense of humor and his selfless nature – always putting others before himself. He was affectionately known as a “wind-up merchant,” never missing an opportunity to tease those he loved with a smile.

Andrew found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved spending time with his family watching movies, exploring his interest in geology, following sports, bowling, playing beer league hockey, listening to music of every genre and cheering on his beloved Newcastle United. Andrew especially treasured golfing with his son, Ethan. He also loved his pet Budgies, Sally, his Golden Retriever, Nemo, Max, Lennon and Buddy.

Among Andrew’s proudest and most cherished memories was marrying his beloved Kelly and the births of their two children, Ethan and Eden-Monais. Without question, his greatest achievement and deepest pride was being their dad. Andrew will be forever loved and deeply missed by his wife, Kelly Smith and their children, Ethan and Eden-Monais Smith; parents, John and Margaret Smith; “Big Sister”, Amanda; nieces, Rebecca and Jennifer; brother-in-law, Chris Horner as well as his many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends throughout the United Kingdom and Canada.

A private Celebration of Life will be held in the Reflections Reception Facility (Milestone Room).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Andrews name may be made directly to a pet rescue program of your choice.
