Air Quality in Medicine Hat and Brooks expected to be at a moderate risk Tuesday and Wednesday

Wildfire smoke is expected to worsen air quality across parts of the Prairies over the next few days.

Environment Canada says much of northern Alberta and Saskatchewan will have poor air quality due to smoke from active wildfires.

In the Medicine Hat and Brooks region, air quality conditions are expected to be at a moderate risk Tuesday through Wednesday evening before shifting to a low risk.

Calgary is showing a high risk for air quality on Tuesday, with a moderate risk expected on Wednesday.

The updated Air Quality Health Index is available through the Environment Canada Website.

When air quality deteriorates into a high risk due to smoke, people are encouraged to limit time outdoors and to keep windows and doors closed as much as possible. Respirator-type masks, such as N-95s, can also reduce exposure to fine particles in the smoke if outdoors.
