Will Greenwood
1954 ~ 2026
It is with a heavy heart that Annette announces the passing of her loving husband, William Watt Greenwood. He passed away at AgeCare Riverview in Medicine Hat on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the age of 72 years.
Will was a devoted family man who generously shared his love and time. He had a warm and welcoming smile. His home was always open and he loved to entertain with family and friends. Inwardly, Will was a very traditional man who loved the classics, but he appreciated the modern arts as well. His faith was an integral part of his life and supported him throughout especially in the last few years.
Born in Toronto, he was a much loved son of Dr. William ‘Bill’ and Adelaide ‘Betty’ Greenwood. With his older sister, Lillian (Lil) and younger brother, Thomas (Tom), he spent his early years in Toronto and his summers at Georgian Bay. There he learned many life skills such as swimming, boating, sailing, canoeing, fishing, chopping trees, building fires, painting and fixing docks. He spent many hours beside the lake with relatives and friends. Will’s mother passed away in 1974 and he later gained a loving stepmom – Gladys (known as Mac) McNevin and step-brothers, Bruce (Janet) McKelvey and Mike (Merilyn) McKelvey. Mac was very supportive of Will and held a special place in his heart.
Will graduated from the University of Carlton with a BA in Anthropology, after which he traveled for half a year in Europe – living for a month on a Greek island and working as a waiter. He loved music and owned a record store in Montreal when he returned – he always had a very eclectic passion for music. Later, Will worked at Goodyear as a sales person, traveling and living in many parts of Ontario and Western Canada.
It was in St. Albert that he met Annette, whom he married in 1992 and lived with in Ontario. In 1994, Will joined Cancarb as sales manager and spent many years traveling the world for work. Later, he opened his own office furniture store and then retired in 2018. He was a lay preacher and relished in researching, writing and delivering sermons and meeting many new people along the way. In his spare time Will liked to listen to music and sing especially harmonizing. He was one of the founding members of “Selah Singers” and sang tenor until the choir retired. Will loved art – The Group of Seven was his favourite. He was a good golfer, loved to play cards and always kept up with federal and provincial politics. He spent many hours volunteering and was especially proud of his role in opening the Champion Centre. He was also on the committee that raised funds for and built the Esplanade in Medicine Hat.
Will was loved and blessed with many women in his life – his wife of 34 years Annette; Gracie Greenwood (Alexander Cosh), Rysa Greenwood (Adam Mitton), Catherine Greenwood (Dylan Kirkby), Casda Thomas (Matthew) – Veda and Stevie. They will keep him in their hearts forever.
He will be forever missed by his sister Lil Brown (Ken Brown (deceased), Chester Cengarle), brother Tom Greenwood (Jacqueline), in-laws Ebeline Zee-Hawtin (John Hawtin), Cornelius Zee (Joan, Doreen), Frank Zee (Marlys), Alfred Zee (Trula Laybon), Tena Horneman (Abel), Rosa Zee (John Lindemulder), John Zee (Cheryl, Stephanie) and 36 nieces and nephews.
