Medicine Hat Mavericks set to open a two-game set with the Energy City Cactus Rats on Thursday

Jun 11, 2026 | 10:39 AM

The Medicine Hat Mavericks had the day off on Wednesday after their scheduled game in Saskatoon against the Berries was postponed due to rain. A makeup game has not yet been scheduled for the Western Canadian Baseball League contest.

Thursday, the Mavs are back at Athletic Park for a home game against the West Division’s Energy City Cactus Rats at 6:45 p.m.

Environment Canada‘s forecast for Medicine Hat shows a 60 per cent chance of showers and a potential thunderstorm, which could be a factor again for the Mavs.

The Cactus Rats are also in the city for a game on Friday at 6:45 p.m., the Bark in the Park game, where fans can register to bring their dog by signing a waiver. The two games are the only scheduled meetings with the team from Spruce Grove this season.

Coming into the two-game set, the Cactus Rats have a 2-4 record, sitting only ahead of the 0-7 Brooks Bombers near the bottom of the West Division.

Medicine Hat has already played almost double the number of games, with 11 complete. They sit in fourth place in the East division at 5-6, but lead the division with 103 runs, and sit only behind the Okotoks Dawgs for runs scored across the WCBL.

The Mavs have seven batters hitting over .300 so far this season, with Josh Stark and Nate King both batting an even .500 thus far.

The hometown player, Stark, sits in a four-way tie for the league lead in home runs with four, and is second in the league for on-base slugging percentage at 1.494, and also second for runs batted in with 16.

Mavs players lead the league in several other categories, with Derek Archer pitching the most innings with 18, Blake Dale has the most plate appearances at 59, and at bats with 58, followed by teammates Evan Morrison and Carter Roth in both categories.

Roth sits in second across the league for hits with 21. Archer is third in the league for strikeouts with 16.

Julian Pokorny has pitched seven innings for the Mavs with no earned runs against him to sit in a four-way tie for the league lead in that category.
